Tip #1 Always cut the bottom 2 cm (1 inch) of the stem

Tip #1 Always cut the bottom 2 cm (1 inch) of the stem, in the water in the vase, when you are ready to make your arrangement.  The end part of the stem will have dried out during travel, and will not absorb water if it is not cut off.  They are cut in the vase, under water, to prevent air bubbles from forming at the cut part of the stem.  These can also block water flow into the stem.
